Although Virginia’s 4PM Burning Law remains in effect through April 30, current dry conditions and wind continue to increase the risk for brush and wildland fires across our area.
The 4PM Burning Law allows outdoor burning between 4PM and midnight, but legal does not always mean safe. (Please note: The Town of Bedford currently has a burn ban in effect at all times.)
Before burning in Bedford County, please consider:
- Current wind conditions
- Dry grass, leaves, and brush
- Proximity to homes, woods, and structures
- Having a water source immediately available
Please help us keep our community safe by postponing outdoor burning when conditions are dry or windy. Small fires can spread rapidly and threaten homes, property, and lives in a matter of minutes.
Bedford County Department of Fire & Rescue continues to closely monitor conditions and remain in regular communication with Virginia Department of Forestry regarding any need for additional restrictions or a local burn ban.
