Volunteer

Fire & EMS responders are our most important asset. Our responders are people just like you who are willing to devote time and energy every day to saves lives and property.

You don’t need to have prior training to become a volunteer firefighter or EMT, just a desire to learn.

While Bedford County Department of Fire & Rescue volunteers do not receive a salary, there are several benefits to donating your time, including:

  • The opportunity to help your family, friends, and neighbors
  • Free training that meets or exceeds Virginia and national standards
  • Keeping taxes low by saving Bedford County millions of dollars in personnel costs
  • Length of Service Awards Program (LOSAP)
  • Liability and accident insurance while acting in your official capacity as a volunteer

If you would like to volunteer, fill out our volunteer form.

If you aren't sure if you want to volunteer just yet but would like to schedule a ride-along fire or EMS, fill out our ride-along form.
