Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week is typically held the second week in October. Since 1922, Fire Prevention Week has been held the week that includes October 9 to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1971.

In 2024, Fire Prevention Week will be held October 6-12. The theme is "Smoke detectors: make them work for you!"

During Fire Prevention Week, Bedford County Fire Marshal Leo George, III, sends a video message to all local elementary schools for children to watch. You can find that video message below as well as related handouts for schools and families.
