BOCFR members on James River Bridge

Special Operations

Special Operations Command (SOC) is a team made up of both volunteer and career members of Bedford County Fire and Rescue agencies, as well as firefighters from the Town of Bedford.

These first responders are trained in the mitigation of emergencies involving high angle, confined space, swift water, trench, search and rescue, structural collapse and large animal emergencies.

Each discipline is lead by a Task Force Leader under the general supervision of the SOC Battalion Chief.

SOC members also make up a State Water Team, who are deployed as needed within the Commonwealth of Virginia when search and rescue resources are needed following weather and flooding events.
